Modern Tooth Replacement Crafted With Your Health in Mind
Dentures have come a long way from the bulky, obviously artificial appliances of decades past. Today’s options are more comfortable, more lifelike, and — when paired with implants — more functional than ever. At Maryland Holistic Dentistry, we go a step further by ensuring every denture we place is crafted with materials that are compatible with your body and a process that considers your overall wellness.
Denture Options We Provide
Conventional Full Dentures
A complete removable prosthesis designed for patients missing all teeth in an upper or lower arch. Custom-fabricated to match your facial contours, gum shade, and natural tooth characteristics.
Partial Dentures
Designed to fill gaps while preserving existing natural teeth. Clasps or precision attachments hold the partial in position, maintaining alignment and distributing chewing forces across remaining dentition.
Implant-Retained Dentures
A removable prosthesis anchored to implants for dramatically improved retention and function. No adhesive needed. Implant retention prevents the rocking and sore spots that plague conventional dentures. For patients seeking even greater stability, our implant dentistry program also offers fully fixed options.
Materials That Respect Your Body
Not all denture acrylics are created equal. Some contain residual monomers, BPA, or other compounds that patients with sensitivities react to. We select materials with biocompatibility as a primary criterion — not an afterthought. When extractions precede denture placement, our biological protocols include PRF and careful socket management to optimize ridge preservation and healing.
The Denture Fabrication Process
- Clinical evaluation, digital imaging, and a candid conversation about your goals
- Precision impressions and bite registration
- Tooth shape, shade, and arrangement selected to complement your face
- Wax try-in appointment where you preview the appearance before final fabrication
- Delivery, adjustment, and fit verification
- Ongoing follow-up to ensure comfort as tissues settle and adapt
Living With Dentures
Adjustment takes time — usually a few weeks. Your provider will coach you through the transition, including how to eat, speak, and care for your new teeth. Regular follow-up visits are important because the ridge beneath a denture changes over time, and periodic relining keeps the fit precise and comfortable.
The Denture Team
Skilled denture work demands an eye for aesthetics and a respect for functional biomechanics. Our providers take both seriously. The practice is led by Dr. Gena Schultheis, DDS.
Locations
Denture consultations are available at all three offices. We see patients from Crownsville, Annapolis, Dunkirk, Gambrills, Bowie, Edgewater, and across central Maryland.
Denture FAQs
How long does it take to get dentures?
From first impression to delivery, expect 3–5 weeks for fabrication. If teeth need to be extracted first, an immediate denture can be placed the same day as extractions while your permanent prosthesis is being made.
Will people be able to tell I’m wearing dentures?
Modern dentures are highly realistic. Tooth color, translucency, and gum shading are customized to look natural. Most people will not notice.
Can I sleep with my dentures in?
It is generally recommended to remove dentures at night to allow your gum tissue to rest and maintain healthy circulation. Your provider will advise you based on your specific situation.
How long do dentures last?
The prosthesis itself may last 5–10 years before needing replacement, though relining to adjust for ridge changes is common in the interim. Implant-retained dentures tend to require less frequent relining.
What are the advantages of implant-retained dentures?
Dramatically better retention, improved chewing ability, elimination of adhesive, reduced bone loss, and a more confident, secure feeling throughout the day.
